About Takitumu Conservation Area
The Takitumu Conservation Area (TCA) is a 155-hectare protected forested reserve located on the southeastern side of inland Rarotonga. Established in 1996, it is widely celebrated as one of the Pacific's greatest ecological success stories. Managed entirely by three local landowning families rather than the government, it serves as the crucial sanctuary that saved the endemic Kākerōri (Rarotonga flycatcher) from the brink of extinction. Tours run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 10:00 AM.
