About Tafua Crater

Tafua Crater is a massive, lush volcanic caldera located within the Tafua Peninsula Reserve on Savai'i Island, Samoa, just a short distance from the main ferry port town of Salelologa. Known for its raw, dramatic natural beauty, this unique ecological feature is Savai'i's only volcano situated directly on a shoreline. It offers a "Jurassic Park" atmosphere, dense rainforest canopies, and incredible coastal vistas. Access requires a small entry fee paid to a local family or attendant in the village, typically around $5 SAT for adults and $2.50 SAT for children, or roughly $5 SAT per vehicle to pass the access gate. Generally open Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (closed to visitors on Sundays).
