About Mala'ekula Royal Tombs
The Mala’ekula Royal Tombs are the sacred burial grounds for the members of the Royal House of Tupou. Located in the center of Nuku’alofa, the capital of Tonga, the site dates back to the death of King George Tupou I in 1893. It serves as a profound national and historical landmark for the kingdom. The sacred burial grounds can be viewed from the roadside as the site tapu (sacred). There is an information board explaining the site in the viewing area. The grounds are fenced off and closed to general public entry.
