About The Three Grottos

The Three Grottos are a hidden natural wonder located on the eastern coastline of Atiu, the third-largest island in the Cook Islands. They consist of three distinct sea caves, sinkholes, and crevasses carved out of the island's jagged, fossilised coral limestone reef (known locally as the makatea). Interestingly, due to natural shifting sands, only two of the grottos are typically accessible to visitors at any given time. Always check local tide schedules before heading out if you plan to do the coastal reef walk.
