About Takutea Island
Takutea Island is a small, completely uninhabited raised coral atoll located in the Southern Group of the Cook Islands, roughly 21 kilometres (13 miles) north-west of its closest neighbor, Atiu. Measuring just 1.22 square kilometres (0.5 square miles) in size, it is managed strictly as a protected wildlife sanctuary and remains one of the most pristine, untouched ecosystems in the South Pacific. For the vast majority of travellers, the closest way to see Takutea is via window seat on an Air Rarotonga flight traveling between Aitutaki and Atiu.
