About Whale Watching (seasonal) Atiu

Whale watching on Atiu Island offers a spectacular and uniquely intimate experience because humpback whales migrate incredibly close to the shore. Between July and October each year, these magnificent creatures travel from icy Antarctic waters to the warm safety of the Cook Islands to mate and give birth. Unlike many commercialised destinations, Atiu's rugged geography provides an exceptional vantage point for spotting whales directly from the land.
