About Te Ruaere Caves
Te Rua Rere Cave is located on the island of Mangaia, the southernmost island of the Cook Islands. It is a revered, sacred and challenging deep limestone cavern. Known as one of the most spectacular yet physically demanding cave networks on the island, it is famous for its massive chambers, stunning geological formations, and its historical role as an ancestral burial site. The cave is privately owned by a local family (the Perau family), who offer guided excursions. You must hire a local family member or guide to access the site safely and respectfully.
